Since Labour took control of the Council, they have doubled car parking charges in all our zones – hitting small businesses and local people when they’ve needed our support the most. Residents are now forced to pay up to £6.00 an hour just to park. This rivals parking charges in the West End. Why?
'This has hit small businesses hard. It's stopping people from using our local high streets as they can't afford to pay those charges,' says Alex Carmel, Conservative Councillor for Munster.
'This extraordinary rise has left local shops in despair. It's the last thing our borough needs when recovering from the pandemic.'
As part of their plan to support local businesses -- the Conservatives have pledged to reverse the parking charge hike.
'Small businesses are the backbone of our economy. And we need to do all we can to support them post pandemic. That's why we'll reverse these parking charge increases on day one if we're elected in May,' says Cllr Victoria Brocklebank-Fowler, Conservative Group Leader.
